Eve opened the door to Crane Industries and walked over to the desk in the main lobby. The woman behind the desk, Dawn, was Julian Crane’s personal assistant. She was known for being on top of everything. Nothing could get by Dawn, which is why Julian kept her happy with fat bonuses each year. “May I help you?” she asked.

“Yes, I am looking for Julian Crane. I don’t have an appointment, but…”

“I’m sorry, ma’am. Mr. Crane is very busy. Without an appointment, you won’t be able to get in to see him.”

“I know you don’t know me, Dawn. That is your name, right?”

“Yes,” the brown-haired woman in her late twenties replied. “How did you know…?”

“Julian has mentioned you to me before. Listen, I know I don’t have an appointment, but Julian would really want to see me if he knew I were here. Please…”

Dawn studied the look on Eve’s face. “OK, you can go on in his office if you wish. He may be in there or in the records room.”
